  • Residents in Belle Mina testified in a Limestone County courtroom on Wednesday to seek a temporary halt to quarry operations — citing health and environmental risks. A trial is scheduled for April 21 to decide if the quarry will close permanently.  WAAY 31

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Released Wednesday, data from the Alabama Department of Workforce shows average weekly wages reached a record $1,148.80 with an $83 increase from last year (employment rose by 12,400 and unemployment dropped to 2.7%), with gains in leisure, hospitality, education, and construction.  WAFF 48

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Huntsville Utilities resumed late fee charges and service disconnections on Monday after a six-month pause, leaving many customers without payment plan options. Local groups like the Salvation Army’s Project Share reported rising calls from residents seeking bill assistance.  WAFF 48
  • The Alabama Veterans Administration finalized a contract for a new state veterans cemetery in northeast Madison County along Maysville Road; the facility will offer 7,000 plots (with capacity for up to 150,000 sites) as construction will begin late summer and last one year.  WAFF 48
