- ➤ Madison City Council approved annexation of the 23-acre Costco site on Highway 72, with the move becoming official on Feb. 18 — this change will raise sales taxes from 7.5% to 9% and modify the developer fee structure for 40 years. AL.com
- ➤ North Alabama child advocacy centers will receive over $800,000 in state funding — the Morgan County center is set to receive nearly $133,000 to support local efforts that aid children. FOX 54

- ➤ Work has begun on Food City’s new $7.6 million, 57,000 sqft grocery store at 17878 Lucas Ferry Road in Athens; it will open later this year and create 180 jobs (offering amenities like a bakery, deli and curbside pickup). AL.com
