  • Refuge Church will host Night to Shine 2026, a prom night for people with special needs, on Friday, Feb. 13 at Huntsville Botanical Garden from 6:00–9:00 p.m. Sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation, guests will enjoy hair and makeup touch-ups, dancing and a coronation celebration.  The Madison Record

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Madison Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the 2026 Best in Business Awards until 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 20 — the awards gala will be held at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center on April 14.  The Madison Record
  • Ohio-based City Barbeque will open its first Alabama location in Huntsville on Feb. 9 at 11544 Memorial Pkwy Southwest (near Hobbs Road and U.S. 231). The restaurant will serve dine-in, carryout and full-service catering for varied groups, offering authentic smoked meats, house-made sides and backyard hospitality.  AL.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Creed will perform at The Orion Amphitheater in Huntsville on July 22 before taking the stage in Orange Beach on July 24 as part of their Summer of '99 tour, with Mammoth + Hinder joining them. Tickets for the Huntsville show are on sale today at AXS.com.  WAFF 48

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Huntsville approved two development agreements to generate over 450 jobs and $200 million investment; Blue Origin will invest $71.4 million at local research parks to create 105+ thruster jobs, and SPX will build a 460,000 sqft facility west of County Line Road to add 350 jobs with performance incentives.  City of Huntsville

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Youth can register now for the 2026 Alabama State Scholastic Chess Championship at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville — set for March 7-8 — as registration ends March 4; fees rise Feb. 28 and players must hold US Chess and Alabama Chess Federation memberships.  The Madison Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City introduced an ordinance to name the new 3-acre arboretum after longtime Landscape Director Joy McKee at John Hunt Park (located at Airport Road and Alex McAllister Drive near the Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex). Council will vote on the proposal on Feb. 12.  City of Huntsville

HEALTH NEWS

  • Madison Hospital rolled out its new acute care transport ambulance on Jan. 16 to transfer critically ill patients quickly to Huntsville Hospital for specialized treatment. The 'ICU on wheels' was funded by an ARPA grant and philanthropy (Alpha Foundation, Bentley Buick GMC, and Robins and Morton).  The Madison Record

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The City approved two agreements with Family Services Center, Inc. to build two three-bedroom affordable homes on Kildare Street in District 2 using federal HOME funds + HUD support on Jan. 22. The project is part of Huntsville's ongoing effort to expand homeownership for income-qualified families.  City of Huntsville

SPORTS NEWS

  • UAH women's basketball extended its record 15-game winning streak with a 71-62 road victory over West Alabama Saturday — Lili Wilken led with 29 points as the Chargers improved to 11-0 in conference play despite a late comeback effort.  The Madison Record
