  • Huntsville Animal Services hosted its fifth annual Ground Dog Day where Cosmo, a shelter dog, predicted an early spring by choosing the treat bowl for spring—upcoming promotions include $14 adoptions from Feb. 9–13 and a drive-thru food pantry on Feb. 21.  City of Huntsville

  • Lockheed Martin plans to quadruple its THAAD interceptor production in Alabama by increasing yearly output from 96 to 400 over the next seven years, with initial contracts set after fiscal-year 2026 funding is finalized.  AL.com

  • A Milken Institute report (highlighted by U.S. News and World Report) ranks Huntsville as the nation’s second top-performing community for economic growth, innovation, and quality of life. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Registration for spring break camps opens Monday, Feb. 9 for Huntsville City School students in grades 1-6 at full-day and specialty sessions; camps will be held March 16-20 at Parks and Rec facilities (fees begin at $50 per week with discounts for additional children).  City of Huntsville

SPORTS NEWS

  • North Alabama Flag Football coach Anna Milwee Hovater signed the program's first 10 signees, including quarterback Julia Rose from Vestavia Hills, for the upcoming 2027 season (eight are in-state players).
