- ➤ Burritt on the Mountain hosts Love, Burritt Day on Saturday, Feb. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering historic craft demonstrations, hands-on activities (candlemaking, printmaking, and pioneer rope twisting), musical performances, food, and a wellness hike from 1 to 3 p.m. The Madison Record

- ➤ Huntsville Ballet offers its Dancers’ Choice series this weekend, where dancers choreograph and perform unique works in an intimate studio setting (800 Regal Drive SW). Performances run Friday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14 at 2 and 4 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 15 at 1 and 3 p.m. The Madison Record
- ➤ Historic Huntsville Foundation offers an interactive self-guided tour titled 'Cornerstones of Freedom: A Walking Tour of Huntsville’s Reconstruction History' that guides visitors through 10 downtown stops — including Harrison Brothers Hardware and the former site of Alabama A&M University — where local Black leaders' contributions to the city are highlighted. - ➤ Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater and Academy will stage Winnie the Pooh the Musical from Feb. 20 through Feb. 22 and again from Feb. 27 through Mar. 1, offering a family-friendly production with Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Rabbit, Owl, Kanga, Roo, and Christopher Robin (by Goodman and Tanner). - ➤ More than 400 local residents have signed a petition to rename Mars Music Hall to honor blues legend Microwave Dave. The petition is gaining support as community members advocate for celebrating his musical legacy. WAAY 31
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ City Council will finalize its deal today with Eli Lilly to develop a $6B campus at the NE corner of Interstate 565 and Greenbrier Parkway that includes a 750,000 sqft facility for 450 jobs. It will also consider a $20M contract for early work on the Pinhook Creek bridge project. AL.com
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Schools Foundation held the second annual Golden Apple Gala on Jan. 28 at the Von Braun Center (Saturn Ballroom) where 91 Teacher of the Year recipients from three school systems were honored. City, county and school leaders joined the event to recognize the teachers' dedication. The Madison Record
- ➤ Huntsville City Schools will install cameras in resource classrooms to record video and audio during school hours (22 of 76 classrooms currently have cameras but none are operational). Under state law, the board will notify families annually, and recordings will be kept for three months. WAAY 31
- ➤ Larry Saulsberry, Jr., Huntsville City Schools’ Director of Teaching and Learning for K–12 Literacy, testified on Capitol Hill before a House subcommittee and noted that 88 percent of Alabama third graders were reading on or above grade level in Spring 2025 while stressing the need for continued federal support for research-based instruction. - ➤ Huntsville is testing a new census notification process as one of two cities nationwide to improve data collection. Residents can expect a notification in their mail soon. WAFF 48

- ➤ High school baseball teams (Bob Jones, James Clemens, Sparkman and Madison Academy) are set to start the season the third week of February in Huntsville. Coaches are adding new players while returning starters aim for strong playoff bids. The Madison Record
- ➤ James Clemens High School’s teams ended the two-day AHSAA Bowling State Tournament at Mobile’s Bowlero with the Lady Jets placing third and the boys finishing fourth — freshman Izzy Cloud earned All-State honors with a 394 total in Class 7A individual play. The Madison Record
- ➤ The Danny Kendall Johnson Foundation will host a Media Night on Feb. 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Saturn Ballroom at the Von Braun Center to honor high school athletes named to the All-City and All-Region Football Teams and award scholarships (Dr. Harry Hobbs will serve as keynote).
