COMMUNITY NEWS

  • South Huntsville welcomed The Park at Hays Farm when it opened in late 2025 near Grissom High School — a nine-acre park with walking paths, playgrounds, and a pavilion designed to celebrate the Hays family's longstanding stewardship.  Huntsville Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • FOX54 airs its Black History Month Special today at 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on its channel and app (download required) to honor African American culture.  FOX 54
  • The Into Light Project exhibit in Huntsville shows 42 portraits, including 12 local figures, of Alabamians who died from addiction and runs through Friday at 2200 Bob Wallace Avenue Southwest (next to Shottenkirk Honda) from 6 to 7 p.m.; it partners with Not One More Alabama to honor lives.  WAAY 31
  • Today, Sonnie Hereford IV will speak at Madison Public Library to share his father's role in Huntsville’s fight for civil rights. The presentation will explore the local historical journey and offer community insights.  WAAY 31

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer an all-day boat safety class on March 14 at Calhoun Community College in north Alabama. The class runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Room 309), teaches boating laws, safe operation and emergencies, costs $25 and requires registration by March 7.  AL.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Huntsville Utilities Electric Operations closed Capshaw Road between Jeff Road and Lynch Road to repair damage caused by a vehicle hitting a utility pole; the closure is expected to last until 10:00 a.m. with Madison County Sheriff’s Office managing traffic control.  WAFF 48
  • The City Council approved a plan with ALDOT to expand the Greenway network, and the project will add more walking and biking paths for residents.  FOX 54

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local colleges and universities in Huntsville are expanding nurse training programs to fight a growing shortage after a 2023 study showed nearly 40,000 nurses left the workforce. This effort will help the community meet its health care needs.  FOX 54
