  • Local officials in Huntsville celebrated Cleveland King, Jr. (a decorated Marine for his Vietnam bravery) as part of Black History Month events. King received his medals decades later after risking his life by coordinating medevac choppers during combat, marking a poignant moment for community remembrance.  WAAY 31
  • Empowerment through Change is collecting paper towels, bath tissue, and tissues to help 144 seniors at two low-income apartment complexes. Volunteers will knock on doors to deliver donations and donors may drop off supplies at Shirley’s Treasures on Andrew Jackson Way (noon to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday) through March 11.  WAAY 31

  • Northrop Grumman unveiled its 3D-printed radar on Monday, Feb. 16 during a flight test on its CRJ-700 jets in Huntsville — the device combines radar, electronic warfare and communication in one design to lower costs and boost sensor updates.  AL.com
  • The Port of Huntsville named Komara Golf Management as the new contract operator for Sunset Landing Golf Course near the airport. Komara — based in Huntsville — will manage daily operations and plan a clubhouse renovation with a full-service bar and grill to boost the local golf experience.  AL.com
  • IKEA announced the opening date for its new store in Huntsville and customers will soon be able to browse its home furnishings.  FOX 54

  • U.S. Space & Rocket Center planetarium earned top honors in USA TODAY awards, highlighting its standout exhibits and drawing local audiences. The accolade reinforces its reputation in space education and supports the center's ongoing success.  FOX 54

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new report by CardRates.com rates Huntsville as the nation’s top financially resilient city (82.1 score) due to affordable housing and robust job growth. Urban development director Shane Davis said the city will continue refining strategies amid a 28% population increase.  Huntsville Business Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Huntsville Hospital Health System got approval for a new $14M, 10,000 sqft medical facility on Hwy 24 in Moulton. Construction will start in May and is expected to take 14 to 16 months — the project will include urgent care and diagnostic imaging to improve local health care.  WAAY 31

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Alabama A&M standout Trey Rutledge signed with the Mets and reported to their spring training facility in Port St. Lucie on Wednesday. He led his team last season with top on-base percentage and a .397 batting average.  WAAY 31
