  • Cheyenne Flowers restored water on Feb. 24 after a 10-day shutoff by borrowing money and now challenges Madison Utilities over an unexpected 116k-gallon bill — she seeks clear answers on the charges.  WAAY 31
  • A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to cover end-of-life costs for local musician Microwave Dave, who died earlier this month. A memorial service is set for Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. at The Episcopal Church of the Nativity (extra funds will support his music education foundation).  FOX 54
  • Monte Sano State Park unveiled major renovations to its historic CCC-built cabins and new facilities last Friday. The upgrades include modernized kitchens, baths, and expanded campsites to enhance guest comfort, following funding from the state bond approved in 2022.  Huntsville Business Journal

  • A fire at a Huntsville apartment complex on Tuesday afternoon displaced several residents and prompted emergency services to assist as officials investigated the incident.  WAFF 48

  • Alabama’s first IKEA opens today at University Place Shopping Center (6125 University Place Dr. NW) with doors opening at 10:00 a.m.; customers may line up from 7:00 a.m. for giveaways and shop among 5,000 products in the 46,000 sqft store that also features a Swedish Bistro offering meatballs and more.  Huntsville Business Journal

  • Cultural Bridge LLC is hosting Matsuri on March 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the North Huntsville Library, where Japanese students will present traditional games, calligraphy, authentic food and cultural activities that celebrate Japanese heritage.  WAAY 31

  • Manufacturing Madness returns for its second year as a bracket-style contest that invites Alabama companies to nominate innovative products until March 6 — the public will vote weekly to determine 2026’s coolest creation.  WAAY 31

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hatch Huntsville completed an 8-week culinary training program that taught young adults essential cooking skills on Feb. 24 near downtown Huntsville. The program prepared participants for careers in local restaurants + community eateries.  WAFF 48

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents will join Huntsville's Green Team, the Land Trust of North Alabama and Wild Ones–North Alabama Chapter on March 7 from 9 a.m. to noon for a Weed Wrangle event at Southside Park, Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve and Monte Sano State Park (reservation required at Monte Sano).  City of Huntsville

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Phase one of the Front Row development in downtown Huntsville features two residential buildings with over 500 luxury apartments plus amenities like gyms, pools and lounges. The first building is set to open this summer while the second will begin early next year.  WAFF 48

  • Huntsville Havoc traded forward Matt Allen to the Pensacola Ice Flyers in exchange for Dawson Sciarrino, who recorded 17 points in 34 games with the Flyers. Sciarrino, 25 from Greensburg, will add his skills following a standout college career at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.  FOX 54
