COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A recent AL.com analysis showed Huntsville grew by nearly 24,000 people from 2019 to 2024, with the Providence district gaining almost 5,000 residents and Williams district adding nearly 4,000. A few areas, including central McDonnell, lost residents — highlighting uneven growth.  AL.com
  • Free 2 Teach will host its Paper Chase 5K on Feb. 28 at Constitution Village at 8 a.m. The event raises funds for classroom supplies, with $40 registration entering participants in a raffle for tickets to local teams + more.  WAAY 31

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At the State of Schools event Tuesday, education leaders warned that the Choose Act has cost local school systems $100 million and could risk up to $250 million because of $7,000 vouchers — they urged both community support and legislative relief to help maintain teacher quality and fund future bonds.  AL.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • The family of a 12-year-old Mountain Gap Middle School student who died by suicide last week is sharing her story to help other parents and children spot early warning signs — including bullying and loss. They hope talking about mental health challenges will encourage timely help.  WAFF 48

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • At Tuesday night's Planning Commission meeting, the council approved lot sales for Westmoore Landing + North Village Town Center near the Northern Bypass and North Memorial Parkway, and announced the bypass will be renamed Bob Wade Lane while the current Bob Wade Lane will get a new name later.  AL.com
  • Essex Capital and Ascend Property Group launched pre-leasing for The Residences at Front Row on Feb. 24 in downtown Huntsville. Prospective tenants can explore unit layouts on the website as move-ins are targeted for June and the development will offer luxury apartments, retail, and office space.  Huntsville Business Journal
  • Local realtor Danielle Justice explained that buyers today often skip Owens Cross Roads listings because a confusing zip code overlap makes them think properties are outside Huntsville — though many homes are within city limits and proper school zones.   • Huntsville City FC has signed four players to boost the team for the upcoming 2026 MLS NEXT Pro season. Nicklaus Sullivan joins from LA Galaxy, Leo Christiano comes via Sporting KC II, Nigel Prince brings college and Atlanta United experience, and homegrown Nick Pariano strengthens the midfield.  FOX 54
  • Bob Jones' Lady Patriots advanced to the state semi-finals after beating Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 63-49 Tuesday at Wallace State Community College — they will face the winner of the regional final next Thursday.  The Madison Record
  • 15-year-old swimmer Brody Tindoll, from James Clemens High, qualified for the Southeastern Championships this weekend at Huntsville Aquatics Center and will soon compete at Nationals in Orlando from March 4 to 7.
