CULTURE NEWS

  • Delta Omega Zeta's Blue Revue will be held soon in Huntsville where tickets and tables are available for purchase (event details will be shared during the broadcast).  WAAY 31

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mayor Tommy Battle presented a $5.5 million check to Huntsville City Schools during a recent City Council meeting after closing three TIF districts in Aug. 2025. The funds, generated by private investment, will continue funding school projects and infrastructure improvements for decades.  Huntsville Business Journal
  • In Huntsville, the Chamber of Commerce hosted the 2026 State of the Schools breakfast on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at the Jackson Center where educators + business leaders discussed school improvements and career-readiness programs.   • Mountain Gap Elementary is set to celebrate its 60th anniversary (its final milestone before the planned closure in 2032) this Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., with the school choir and band performing for the community.  WAFF 48
  • UAH began converting the Bevill Center into a cybersecurity hub on Friday. The project will expand campus technology and training opportunities for students.  FOX 54

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kitchen Cops inspected food vendors across north Alabama today and found minor violations at several venues, including a Circle K with mold on tomatoes and Saki’s Food Mart in Toney with an off cooler and unlabeled chemicals (Helena’s Mountain Market and Casa de Santiago also faced similar issues).  WAFF 48
  • Alabama lawmakers passed a law last year that requires hemp product testing and labeling to cap THC and guard against mold, pesticides, and toxic chemicals. The rules, supported by State Rep. Andy Whitt, are meant to protect consumers as investigations showed safety concerns in similar products.  AL.com
  • Athens State University is hosting its fourth annual Active Minds Mental Health Summit on Wednesday, Mar. 4 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Sanridge Center Ballroom to promote mental health awareness and provide breakfast + lunch for attendees.  WAAY 31

  • Women’s Basketball celebrated Senior Night with an 83–67 win over West Alabama at Spragins Hall on Friday evening. Wilken scored 32 points to set the single-season record as the Chargers tied their record with 26 wins and will host the Gulf South Conference tournament's opening round on Monday.  WAAY 31
  • Madison Academy will honor legendary baseball coach Mike Good by retiring his No. 22 jersey Friday, April 3 at 5:15 p.m. before the Mustangs’ game against Guntersville High School — the ceremony marks his 23 years of success including four state championships.  FOX 54
