  • Skate Team 6 will teach skating to children and adults with autism Monday at The Riley Center to promote autism awareness. The group, which has grown from two members to over 150 since January 2025, will prepare for a 12-hour skate covering 100 miles to raise funds on April 19.  WAAY 31
  • AshaKiran and the City of Huntsville are partnering to host the 14th Annual Community Kite Festival later this week, offering a local outdoor event for families and kite enthusiasts.  WAFF 48
  • The Women of Character event, now in its second year, honors community leaders in Decatur by celebrating local impact and inspiring community engagement.  FOX 54

  • North Sand Mountain won its first Class 2A state basketball championship on Friday, March 6 at Legacy Arena, beating Cold Springs 41-28; point guard Kayden Reyes scored 15 points and earned tournament MVP honors as the team took an 11-0 lead early in the game.  FOX 54
  • Hazel Green High School’s girls’ basketball team beat Park Crossing 67-47 on Saturday in the Class 6A state title game at Legacy Arena (avenging last year’s semifinal loss) to earn its eighth title in nine years.  WAAY 31
  • Alabama beat Auburn 96-84 on Saturday, Mar. 7 to sweep the season series, finishing the regular season at 23-8 while Auburn's tournament hopes now hang in the balance.  WAAY 31
  • Dozens of kids tried hockey for the first time today as the North Alabama Hockey Association hosted its Try Hockey Day event in Huntsville — giving beginners hands-on experience on the ice.  WAFF 48
