COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Madison Visionary Partners and the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library are hosting a Community Volunteer Fair on Saturday, Apr. 11, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Madison Public Library — connecting locals with over 25 nonprofit organizations for volunteer opportunities.  WAAY 31
  • Deborah Barnhart, the former CEO of Space and Rocket Center, died Wednesday morning at Huntsville Hospital following a cancer diagnosis (she led the center for nine years and served as Space Camp director from 1986 to 1990).  WAFF 48
  • The Market at MidCity returns to a new location at 900 Mid City Drive in Huntsville and will run every Sunday from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. starting March 15 and lasting through Nov. 8, where local farmers, bakers & artisans will offer their crafts and produce.  WAAY 31

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 49th annual St. Paddy’s Day Parade — a celebration of Irish heritage — will take place Saturday along Huntsville streets. Locals and visitors can enjoy lively festivities and traditional music during the parade.  WAFF 48

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The March Madness tournament is drawing thousands of visitors to Huntsville today, boosting local businesses. Local merchants report increased sales as the event supports the local economy.  WAAY 31

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Retired Lt. Col. Michael Yarbrough inspired Liberty Middle School students during its Black History Month program by sharing his Air Force experiences and stories (including Bessie Coleman and the Tuskegee Airmen) to encourage them to pursue their dreams.  The Madison Record
  • Officials will restore air conditioning at James Clemens after over a month without service — parents report students getting sick and falling asleep in class.  FOX 54
  • The Caring Link (founded in 2022 by Kate O’Neal) supplies local schools with care closets stocked with clothing, hygiene items, and essentials for students in need. Madison County schools will use the resources to support families throughout the school year.  WAAY 31

  • During the Owens Cross Roads City Council meeting on March 10, Officer Matt Elliff was awarded a Meritorious Service pin and certificate for saving a life from an overdose two years ago. His recognition underscores his positive impact on the community.  WAAY 31
  • AeroVironment won a three-year, $97.4M contract to design and integrate the GENESIS test environment on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville; the project will help the Army test advanced sensor systems and strengthen joint planning—boosting missile defense readiness.  Huntsville Business Journal
