  • Alabama’s local sales tax averages 5.46 percent, the highest in the nation, added on top of a 4 percent state tax that funds roads, public safety and schools. Lawmakers in Montgomery are considering a state lottery to ease the tax burden if a constitutional amendment passes.  FOX 54
