  • Today, Theresa Wilson-Todd, the executive director of the Rose of Sharon soup kitchen, said she loves to help people in need by serving meals and supplies. The soup kitchen in Huntsville has served over 300 meals a day for more than 20 years—offering dignified dining that helps folks get back on their feet.  WAAY 31

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Danny Windham was named to the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology Board of Directors during a meeting. He retired as COO in February and brings over 25 years of leadership experience from roles at Adtran (President and COO) and Digium (CEO) while continuing to mentor local startups.  Huntsville Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • An Arizona man, Jeremiah Warren, pleaded guilty in October 2024 to mailing over 34 pounds of drugs to an Athens dealer and was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Mar 24 — federal and local police led the investigation.  WHNT News 19
  • Charlotte Hafford was arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop near Jordan Lane+Holmes Avenue in Huntsville+ on March 24.  WAFF 48

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Von Braun Center celebrated its 50th anniversary on March 24—its leaders announced major renovations to attract bigger Broadway shows.  WAFF 48

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Madison County Health Department released health inspection scores for food and lodging places inspected March 8-14. Scores ranged from 81 to 100 (with seven places getting a perfect score) while inspectors fixed several critical safety issues on site (including problems with labeling and cleaning).  WAAY 31

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Today, an annual survey by Niche ranked three Alabama communities among America's best places to live—Huntsville placed 24th among best cities due to high marks for families, public schools and parks—while Madison and Meadowbrook were rated 9th and 50th based on housing, affordability and walkability.  AL.com
