  • L.L.Bean has donated $10,000 to Huntsville YMCA to fund summer camp and youth programs at Bridge Street Town Center ahead of its store opening on Apr. 3 (community investment supports local children).  AL.com
  • The 3rd annual Singing River Smoke-O-Rama barbecue competition will be held in Athens on March 27-28 at the Limestone County Sheriff's Rodeo Arena—pitmasters nationwide will compete with a vendor market supporting funds for local outreach programs.  WAAY 31

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Lash’s Seafood now operates the waterfront restaurant at Joe Wheeler State Park in Rogersville. The Disons serve breakfast, lunch and dinner from Thursday through Sunday and plan to add seating and a tiki hut as demand grows.  AL.com
  • Lauren Marsh, president of Ridgeline Construction Roofing and Exteriors and a former dance teacher, received the AGC Alabama Women in Construction Award at the BuildSouth Awards held during Women in Construction Week in Huntsville—she plans to boost opportunities for women in construction.  Huntsville Business Journal

  • The GEOHuntsville Summit returns to the Huntsville Botanical Garden on Thursday, March 26 at 9 a.m.—the full-day event will include panels on geospatial, space, and AI as well as scholarships for local students. Lt. Gen. Richard L. Zellmann will deliver the breakfast keynote.  City of Huntsville

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Huntsville is accepting applications for its 2026-2027 Mayor's Youth Advisory Council aimed at high school students living in the city; applicants must include a recommendation letter and GPA transcript and submit by Tuesday, Apr. 21 at 10 p.m.  WAAY 31
  • The Global Force Symposium is underway at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, bringing together defense companies and military leaders to share new technology (including drones and laser systems). The event runs through Thursday and attendees can still register for sessions.  WAAY 31

HEALTH NEWS

  • Madison Hospital in Huntsville earned the Dementia Friendly Hospital designation, making it only the fifth facility in the state and the first in North Alabama. The hospital gained the accolade for its enhanced support for patients with dementia.  FOX 54
  • The American Heart Association-Alabama has named two honorees for the 2026 Huntsville Heart Ball on April 11. Lynn Troy earns the Heart of the Community award for 10 years of volunteer work and Dr. Sherrie Squyres is recognized as Physician of the Year for her heart health advocacy.  WAAY 31

SPORTS NEWS

  • The UAH Chargers made history by reaching the Final Four after rallying from a 14-point deficit to beat Cal Poly Pomona 61-53 on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh, and they will face top-seeded Grand Valley State next to vie for a national championship berth.  WAAY 31
