  • On March 20, people held a ceremony at the John Scoble Memorial Pavilion to plant the 'Moon Tree' at Monte Sano State Park. The pine tree came from a seed that traveled 1.3 million miles on Artemis I — a sign of Huntsville's space history — and officials said it is a proud symbol for our community.  Huntsville Business Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Boeing announced it delivered more than 500 Patriot Advanced Capability-3 seekers in 2024 at its Huntsville plant—an all-time production record was set. The company will open a 35,000-square-foot expansion this spring to boost production by 30%.  AL.com

CRIME NEWS

  • Police in Decatur are investigating damage to two historical markers honoring Black heritage and women’s suffrage—one marker was hit by a commercial vehicle while the other showed tire tracks suggesting vandalism— and replacement will cost thousands and take about a year.  AL.com
  • A Huntsville man died after a shooting on Monday night near Turf Avenue when officers found 33-year-old Thaddeus Stewart with a gunshot wound—investigators from Major Crimes are now looking into the incident after he was involved in an argument.  WAAY 31
  • Mac Marquette, a former Decatur police officer charged with murder, argued his case in court on Tuesday that he shot Stephen Perkins in self-defense after Perkins threatened a tow truck driver during a botched repossession; the immunity hearing determined if his murder charge would be dropped, and if not, his trial will begin on April 7 + he may appeal an unfavorable ruling.  WHNT News 19

  • Plans for a music venue and event center at Ditto Landing are moving forward after many delays, as Madison County leaders approved a bid to convert the state docks building into a riverfront venue for concerts, events and dining. Construction is expected to begin by June and finish by October 2026 — officials said they are negotiating costs raised by recent tariff increases.  WAFF 48

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On March 17, the U.S. Space and Rocket Center honored the children of Dr. Wernher von Braun—Iris, Margrit and Peter—with its first Founders Award at the Davidson Center’s Saturn V Hall, marking a celebration of his long-lasting impact on our aerospace industry. His work at NASA built Huntsville into an innovation hub, and companies like Blue Origin, Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin continue to create thousands of local jobs.  Huntsville Business Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Huntsville Police Department warns drivers to expect road closures on southbound Explorer Boulevard between Farrow Road and the Columbia High School entrance starting Friday at 9 a.m. and traffic delays on Saturday when the U.S. Paralympics Cycling Time Trial runs from 6 a.m. to noon—officers will be on-site to manage traffic and assist the public.  City of Huntsville
