COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Boys & Girls Club broke ground on the Johnston Family Teen Center in Huntsville, a project that will expand services for local teens in the Tennessee Valley. The new facility is expected to enhance support for youth programs.  FOX 54
  • The Rocket City Trash Pandas are hosting Yoga in the Outfield on April 11 at Toyota Field. The free event includes a yoga class and finishes with a happy hour mixer (held at the Inline Electric Rock Porch).  WAAY 31
  • New Census data shows Limestone remains Alabama’s fastest growing county with a 3.3% increase while Huntsville’s Madison saw a 2.5% gain, together accounting for nearly 48% of the state’s population growth in 2025. The rise in residents points to more job opportunities and affordable housing in the area.  AL.com
  • Huntsville Utilities is hosting the American Public Power Association Lineworkers Rodeo at John Hunt Park this weekend, where lineworkers — performing pole climbs, equipment change-outs, and hurt-man rescues — will compete in challenges. The free event includes food trucks, a kids zone, and open ceremonies at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.  AL.com

  • Tech and industrial leaders gather at GEOHuntsville Summit in Huntsville today—highlighted by keynote remarks from the deputy commander of the U.S. Space Command.  FOX 54
  • Huntsville-based AeroVironment unveiled its LOCUST X3 laser system today at the AUSA Global Force Symposium – a new AI-enabled defense tool that tracks enemy drones up to seven miles away and fires shots costing about $3 each.  Huntsville Business Journal
  • Northrop Grumman will hire about 1,000 workers over the next five years at its EPIC facility near the Greenbrier exit on I-565, boosting production of its air and missile defense system and drawing from local talent.  AL.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General Steve Marshall issued a cease-and-desist order to Alabama businesses selling or possessing Kratom after independent tests found dangerous substances in some products. Affected retailers must remove these items immediately+ they risk asset seizure and felony prosecution.  1819 News
  • Thursday’s ceremony at the VBC honored a new ROTC Hall of Fame class for service and leadership—drawing hundreds of Junior ROTC cadets. Retired Col. John Kuenzli and Maj. Gen. James Miles were among those recognized, linking past achievements with the Army’s future in Huntsville.  WAAY 31
  • The Alabama Department of Human Resources and the State Department of Education will distribute $120 per qualifying child in grocery benefits through the Alabama SUN Bucks program this summer. Eligible students include those in school meal programs (or those meeting income guidelines) and families can apply online.  WAAY 31

HEALTH NEWS

  • Alabama midwives and freestanding birth centers asked the state Supreme Court to overturn a ruling that forces them to secure hospital licenses, warning that the mandate could close affordable facilities for low-risk births. The challenge follows an appellate decision by the ADPH amid growing maternal health concerns.  WAFF 48
