BUSINESS NEWS

  • Robins and Morton finished renovating and expanding Signature Aviation's private terminal at Huntsville International Airport by adding a new entrance, lounges, meeting rooms, and a dedicated military lounge; the 5,000-square-foot renovation and 2,500-square-foot expansion feature a mural by local artist Emma Gilbert that honors the city's aerospace roots and was completed on time and within budget.  AL.com

CRIME NEWS

  • A wanted Mobile man charged with rape was pulled over for a traffic violation near mile marker 334 on Interstate 65 at 10 p.m. Wednesday in Priceville, and while being transported to Morgan County Jail he ran to the Decatur Police Department where officers caught him—21-year-old Travis Hill Jr.—who now faces charges for escape and attempted elusion with bond set at $83,000.  WAAY 31

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Port of Huntsville’s International Intermodal Center recorded 33,745 rail lifts in 2024—the best year since 2008—with a 22.3% increase from 2023 and surpassed one million lifts on March 19. The port spent $230 million on air freight and over $70 million on rail infrastructure, and it is set to drive further economic growth and create new jobs in the region.  AL.com

  • On March 21, UAH Huntsville Showcase gave students a series of panel talks, networking sessions, and a walking tour that showed local business hubs and prepared them for entering the job market. The event was hosted by UAH's College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CHASS) and the College of Business (COB).  Huntsville Business Journal

  • Lieutenant Gov. Will Ainsworth is in Washington, D.C. to discuss moving U.S. Space Command to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville and widening I-65 from the Tennessee line to the Gulf of America—he shared a White House picture on Thursday to back these proposals.  1819 News
  • The Summit on Monte Sano development received final approval for 26 lots north of Bankhead Parkway and east of Gaslight Way—construction work is ongoing as plans remain unchanged despite previous resident opposition over traffic, flooding, and noise concerns.  AL.com
  • Yesterday the City of Huntsville approved nearly $300,000 in Emergency Solutions Grant funds to nine local agencies serving vulnerable residents—Community Development will administer the funds under Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs rules to support shelter and case management services. The grants will help nonprofit organizations provide essential services to those experiencing homelessness.  City of Huntsville

  • Frito-Lay recalled fewer than 1,300 bags of Tostitos chips in 13 states including Alabama on Wednesday after discovering some bags contained nacho cheese chips made with undeclared milk—posing a risk to people with milk allergies and prompting customers to discard the product and contact the company.  WHNT News 19
  • Frito-Lay has recalled a limited number of 13 oz. bags of Tostitos Cantina Traditional Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips that may contain undeclared milk and risk a severe allergic reaction. The affected chips (UPC code 2840052848) were sold in 13 states including Alabama since Mar. 7 and carry a guaranteed fresh date (May 20).  AL.com
