- ➤ The Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial honored local Vietnam veterans Saturday morning — several were recognized for their service — as community members gathered to pay their respects. WAFF 48
- ➤ Saturday in Huntsville featured several community events as the Madison County Recreation leagues hosted opening day ceremonies, the 5th Annual Women’s Expo was held at the Von Braun Center, the 3rd Annual Taste of Soul Family Festival took place at Orion Amphitheater in MidCity, and paracycling time trials unfolded at Cummings Research Park. Local Vietnam veterans were honored at the Madison County Veterans Memorial and a memorial marked the two-year anniversary of HPD Officer Garrett Crumby’s death on March 28 — reflecting the community’s commitment to its heritage and heroes. - ➤ On Saturday morning, veterans, their families and community members gathered at the Veterans Memorial in downtown Huntsville to remember the sacrifices of those who served in Vietnam, with the ceremony hosted by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1067. The event marks the final year of the U.S. Vietnam War Commemoration that began in 2012. WAAY 31
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Priceville Police arrested three men on Friday night after a traffic stop on I-65 near the 331-mile marker turned into a drug bust that uncovered marijuana, over three pounds of liquid opiates hidden in a secret compartment, prescription drugs and paraphernalia; Charles Edward Calvin, Darrion Denard Brooks and Eli Green III from Texas were booked in Morgan County Jail with bonds set at $945,000 for Calvin and Brooks and $445,000 for Green. - ➤ State Rep. Susan DuBose of Hoover is urging a vote on HB342 that would let students leave classes for off-site religious instruction with parental consent and without using public funds; the bill follows a 2019 law that few school boards have adopted—DuBose said it gives all families a choice and urged parents to contact their lawmakers. The bill is set for a Wednesday vote and may change how local schools handle elective religious education. 1819 News

- ➤ Decatur City Council will meet on Monday to begin its interview process for a new police chief—officials will decide which candidates to interview to replace former Chief Todd Pinion. WAFF 48
