COMMUNITY NEWS

  • MADISON will host free walking tours of its historic downtown on April 19 and April 26 starting at 10 a.m. at the historic roundhouse — local volunteer guides will share key stories about the town’s past with residents and visitors.  The Madison Record

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities said a suspect was accused of setting a building on fire in a Huntsville neighborhood and asked anyone who recognized the person to call 53-crime. The Better Business Bureau warned that scammers are targeting homeowners working on yard projects during spring.  WAFF 48

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new weather exhibit—How We Know The Weather—was unveiled Monday at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, featuring 30 interactive displays that teach visitors about weather science and its connection to space research. Local leaders and experts joined the ribbon-cutting to mark the center's effort to revitalize the museum.  Huntsville Business Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Huntsville has been named on Fast Company's list of the World’s Most Innovative Cities of 2025—an honor that shows the city is using music to boost its economy and attract visitors. The city joins global firms like Waymo and Nvidia—making Huntsville the first city recognized for this innovative approach.  Huntsville Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Alabama A&M University received new recognition as a Research College and University, showing it had worked hard in research. The school said it is working toward R2 status—an effort to boost research and attract more students.  WHNT News 19

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At its March 24 meeting, Madison city council approved Flock Safety's license plate camera system for police to track vehicles from nearby Huntsville and Decatur—an effort to close a key surveillance gap. The system will cost $86,000 and store data for thirty days—without monitoring everyday vehicle activity.  The Madison Record
  • Huntsville City Council voted to limit access to government buildings after officials reported repeated disruptive filming by individuals known as First Amendment Auditors. The ordinance now prohibits unannounced recording or photography in restricted work areas+ violators may face municipal court fines while public meeting spaces remain accessible for recording.  AL.com

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Huntsville Botanical Garden will host its Spring Plant Sale from April 11—13, offering a wide selection of annuals, perennials, native plants, trees, fruits, vegetables, herbs and shrubs for all gardeners. The event will give visitors a chance to choose quality plants from the garden's unique collections.  The Madison Record

  • The top 50 pro bass anglers are competing for a $300,000 prize at Bass Pro Shops REDCREST 2025 on Lake Guntersville from Thursday through Sunday plus a free outdoor sports expo is open at the Von Braun Center from today through April 6.  The Madison Record
  • Alabama A&M hired Donte Jackson to coach its men’s basketball team after he spent eight seasons at Grambling State—where he won three SWAC Coach of the Year honors. The Milwaukee native and Central State grad is set to build a winning team at The Hill.  FOX 54
