COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Huntsville and Downtown Huntsville Inc are hosting an Artemis II splashdown watch party at Big Spring Park today at 6 p.m. The event will feature a live stream & food trucks to bring the community together for this historic space celebration.  AL.com
  • Huntsville's Community Development Department celebrated National Community Development Week earlier this week by using a $500,000 federal grant to renovate two low-income senior homes and train Habitat for Humanity volunteers. Mayor Tommy Battle also awarded a construction manager for community leadership.  Huntsville Business Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • BlueHalo (a Huntsville firm) was awarded a $19 million Pentagon contract to develop advanced ceramic materials for military projects, with work at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and an expected completion date of Dec. 4, 2029.  AL.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Design Week 2026's Opening Night celebration will feature Huntsville native Paul McDonald & The Mourning Doves at The Lumberyard on April 13 from 6-9 p.m., marking a homecoming performance as part of a four-day creative event.  City of Huntsville
  • Broadway Theatre League of Huntsville unveiled its 67th season on Apr. 9. The season includes two local premieres, two audience favorites, a beloved classic and a special show for young audiences, with performances planned across various venues.  WAAY 31

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Kay Ivey announced that the CHOOSE Act education savings account program received nearly 49,000 applications, significantly increasing participation from last school year. Families will be notified mid-April + funds will be available starting in July for eligible K-12 students.  1819 News
  • Huntsville summer camps now accept registrations for children entering grades 1 through 6 and offer both full and half day programs this summer.  WAAY 31
  • Kylie Zou, a seventh grader at Journey Middle School, qualified for the national MATHCOUNTS competition in Orlando after placing second at the state contest on March 21. Her achievement shows the school’s strong support for academic challenges.  The Madison Record
  • Limestone County Schools is set to begin construction this summer at East Limestone High School to add classrooms and upgrade safety features as enrollment grows. The project includes a multi-purpose room (which will serve as a storm shelter) to support the expanding student body.  WAAY 31

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Huntsville’s Green Team is hosting Earth Month events today with a plant and supplies giveaway at the Jaycee Building at John Hunt Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (free tomato and cucumber plants are available while supplies last) followed by a community cleanup on Saturday at the Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center, where cleanup supplies will be provided.  City of Huntsville

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TVA is using a high-tech aircraft with a LiDAR system to survey transmission lines for tree hazards during the current severe weather season, and crews will trim risky trees by October to secure power for north Alabama. The program improves speed and lowers costs by replacing slower ground inspections.  AL.com
