CRIME NEWS

  • A Huntsville grand jury charged cybercrime leader Kareem Ahmad (21) with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.  WAFF 48
  • 28-year-old John Paul Ketteman, a former corrections officer at Limestone County Correctional Facility, pleaded guilty to bribery after accepting more than $10,000 through Cash App for smuggling contraband — his sentencing is set for June 24th.  WHNT News 19

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Huntsville Comic & Pop Culture Expo will celebrate its 10th anniversary at the Von Braun Center from April 25—27 with expanded space and over 70 celebrity guests such as "Weird Al" Yankovic, William Shatner, Sting, Priscilla Presley, and Melissa Joan Hart. Doors will open Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  FOX 54
  • After 57 years, the Huntsville Literary Association ended operations and donated nearly $9,500 to the Huntsville Madison County Public Library—this donation will sponsor the September Vive le Livre fundraiser featuring Andy Weir—ensuring continued support for local literary events.  AL.com

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Huntsville/Madison County Chamber and local partners will host the ReLaunch Job Fair on Tuesday, April 15th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church (600 Governors Drive SW) to connect job seekers with 25 local companies and potential interviews.  Huntsville Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UAH received Stage II approval from the UA System Board of Trustees to renovate 45,000 square feet of the Bevill Center into a hub for cybersecurity research+education using $34.4 million in state funds. The project will expand training for students and industry partners and is expected to finish in about two years.  AL.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Huntsville City Council approved a resolution on April 10th to transfer $2.7 million from U.S. Treasury funds to the Catholic Center of Concern, which runs the Huntsville Housing Helps program that gives rental and utility support to low-income residents. The program, started in 2022 as a replacement for the COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program, will help families stay in their homes.  City of Huntsville
