  • The Fitness in the Park series will run on Saturdays in May and June from 9 to 10 a.m. with free sessions featuring different workouts in local parks; it will start on May 3 with Boot Camp at Big Spring Park West—followed by the Mayor’s Bike Ride at 11 a.m.  WHNT News 19
  • Hundreds of dog lovers gathered at the Orion Amphitheater today for the third annual Pup Palooza—supporting the Greater Huntsville Humane Society's animal care programs across the Tennessee Valley. More than 500 people and 30 vendor booths were present at the event—proceeds will benefit shelter care, spaying and neutering services, and low-cost vet clinics.  FOX 54

  • Huntsville Fire — Rescue units responded to a structure fire on Patton Road Sunday afternoon and city alerts advised residents to avoid the area as crews worked to contain the scene.  WHNT News 19

BUSINESS NEWS

  • After years of lobbying by city leaders and local businesses, Delta Air Lines will launch nonstop flights between Huntsville International Airport and New York’s LaGuardia Airport today with an inbound flight arriving just after 9:30 p.m. and an outbound flight leaving at 7:05 a.m. Tuesday.  FOX 54

CRIME NEWS

  • Sheriff's deputies got a 911 call from a homeowner on Hamer Road in the Owens Cross Roads area and quickly stopped a car to arrest 19-year-old James Briggs, who is charged with unlawful breaking and entering.  WAFF 48
  • A Huntsville man (18) was arrested in Priceville after officers stopped his vehicle, found marijuana and a stolen handgun, and he faces charges of receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of marijuana with bond set at $70,000.  WAFF 48

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Madison County announced that a section of Charity Lane—spanning Nix Road to Loveless Road—will close today from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for Huntsville Utilities to replace utility poles, and drivers are asked to use alternate routes—plan accordingly.  WHNT News 19

  • Huntsville’s Alex McPherson returned to kicking during Auburn’s A-Day on April 13th, showing marked improvement after his December surgery—his return points to progress in his recovery.  WAAY 31
