BUSINESS NEWS

  • Northrop Grumman opened its new $20 million production center — covering 175,500 square feet — on One Aviation Way near Huntsville International Airport that nearly doubled its local space for a next-generation air defense system built by 3,000 workers. The facility will soon produce the Integrated Battle Command System — a tool set to protect soldiers and allies — and speed up defense work.  AL.com
  • Delta began nonstop flights between Huntsville and New York City on April 14 — the new route offers a direct way for local travelers to reach a major hub. The airline will operate these flights five times a week — adding more travel options for both business and leisure passengers.  WAAY 31

CRIME NEWS

  • A woman died after being hit by a car at 8:28 p.m. Monday in the 8900 block of Madison Boulevard—police and fire crews arrived at the scene near Sullivan Street.  WHNT News 19
  • An 18-year-old was charged after a deadly hit-and-run crash on Winchester Road near County Lake Road on April 7 that killed a pedestrian.  WAFF 48
  • Huntsville police arrested Cedrick Demon Allen, 43, for first-degree arson after he allegedly set fire to an occupied apartment building on the 4500 block of Bonnell Drive on Sunday evening—no injuries were reported despite damage to the building.  FOX 54
  • One year has passed since 29-year-old Marquez Williams was killed in a hit and run near North Memorial Parkway and Mastin Lake Road—his family, who have not received police updates since his death, will honor his memory today at 6 p.m. with a balloon release at Valley View Memorial Gardens.  WAAY 31

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NASA's IMAP spacecraft is undergoing rigorous testing at Marshall Space Flight Center to simulate extreme temperature changes—conditions it will face during launch and on its journey toward the Sun. The probe will orbit at Lagrange Point 1 and map the heliosphere as it prepares for a Falcon 9 launch from Kennedy Space Center no earlier than September.  FOX 54
  • State Representatives Anthony Daniels and Laura Hall hosted a town hall at Mae Jemison High School Monday to discuss how tariffs and federal cuts affect residents as attendees raised questions about potential Medicaid cuts and school funding. Daniels said he will meet with Senator Katie Britt Tuesday to continue addressing these issues with local officials.  WHNT News 19
  • The federal tax deadline for residents in Alabama and certain Tennessee counties has been moved to May 1—due to last year’s hurricanes Helene and Milton—and state tax filings remain due tomorrow.  WAAY 31

SPORTS NEWS

  • More than 750 athletes will compete today at Milton Frank Stadium in Huntsville after organizers met their goals of 1,200 volunteers and $10,000 in donations to support the track and field events. The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a torch relay—4 athletes, including a Special Olympics athlete of the year, leading the opening ceremonies.  AL.com
