  • Residents in Red Hill expressed alarm after receiving mailed notices about a proposed rock quarry (Marshall County) on Apr. 14. Local officials have not yet announced follow-up measures to address community concerns.  WAAY 31

  • Following a federal judge ruling, Huntsville City Schools ended federal oversight for hiring and clubs but still must improve its facilities before gaining full unitary status. The board will need to meet more green factor criteria to be completely free of supervision.  1819 News

FINANCE NEWS

  • Missing the tax deadline triggers the IRS to levy a failure-to-file penalty of 5% per month (up to 25% of the tax owed) plus a 0.5% monthly failure-to-pay fee. Filing even if you cannot pay in full and requesting an extension before the deadline on Wednesday helps minimize added costs.  FOX 54

  • Crews began work on a new project to add extra parking spaces downtown on Apr. 14. The construction aims to ease parking shortages in the area.  WAFF 48
