  • Grace's Girls' Club celebrated its first birthday on April 15 + community members joined a local celebration + marking an important milestone in the club's work.  WAAY 31

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Huntsville resident Lesli Ingram was injured when a driver made an illegal left turn at the Mastin Lake and Memorial Parkway intersection during overpass construction—police reported over 30 accidents at the intersection since the project began three months ago and extra signage was added after a fatal crash.  WAFF 48

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Kay Ivey signed Senate Joint Resolution 63 on Tuesday urging the permanent establishment of the Space Command headquarters at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville.  WAFF 48
  • State Rep. Yarbrough said his Laken Riley Act is expected to be on the House floor for a vote Thursday as the legislature nears the end of its session and many bills await final passage — the bill cleared the Judiciary Committee with no opposition and is backed by key Senate leaders. The act would let local law enforcement work with federal agencies to enforce immigration laws.  1819 News
  • On June 6 at 1 p.m. at City Hall, the City of Owens Cross Roads will hold a public hearing to discuss the future of Pathway of Madison County— a mental health treatment center for troubled girls that had its license renewal denied by the City Council in March after a riot last fall.  FOX 54

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Southern Branch held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 11 in Huntsville to open its new office in the Lowe Mill area. This move comes as Huntsville added roughly 13,600 residents in 2024 (the largest growth in Alabama) and local housing trends show strong sales with nearly 238 homes sold in February.  Huntsville Business Journal

  • Longtime football coach Bill 'Brother' Oliver died on April 14 at 85. He coached at Alabama, Auburn, and Chattanooga—leaving a lasting mark on each program he served.  1819 News
  • Hundreds turned out Tuesday afternoon at Milton Frank Stadium to cheer on athletes competing in the Special Olympics event—an inspiring display of local support. The large crowd showed that Huntsville residents proudly back their local competitors.  WAAY 31
