- ➤ Huntsville veteran Robert Dupree is receiving a free roof after a chance conversation led Continental Roofing — partnered with Still Serving Veterans — to name him the first recipient. The program launched in 2025 and will offer another opportunity in 2027. WAAY 31
- ➤ An autism acceptance walk will take place on Saturday as part of Autism Acceptance Month; the event aims to bring community members together in Huntsville to promote inclusion. WAFF 48

- ➤ A school bus driver in Hazel Green was praised for quick thinking after a crash on Pauline Drive Tuesday afternoon when a Lexus SUV driver suffered a medical emergency — two students were attended to at the scene and both returned to school. WAAY 31
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Madison City Schools Superintendent Dr. Ed Nichols announced he will retire at the end of the school year with his final day on June 30, and the district will soon begin the search for a new leader. The Madison Record
- ➤ Columbia Elementary 4th grader Vale Erwin won first place in the elementary division of the Alabama Governor's App Challenge; his app Relic Routes uses interactive exploration (including clues and 3d printed tokens) to teach about archaeology. The award was presented Monday at the Alabama Computer Science Education Summit in Montgomery. WAAY 31

- ➤ Green Team is hosting Earth Day at Hays Nature Preserve on Saturday, Apr. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free event offers interactive activities, live demonstrations and eco-exhibits, plus a shuttle service from Mark Russell Recreation Center to ease limited parking. City of Huntsville
