- ➤ Huntsville residents will join Mayor Tommy Battle for the 16th annual Mayor’s Bike Ride on Saturday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at Big Spring Park and must check in by 10:30 a.m. at the VBC parking garage entrance—bike vendors and the Huntsville Police Department’s Bike Unit will lead the family-friendly, 4-mile ride as part of Healthy Huntsville. - ➤ Huntsville officials said the city will continue planned growth amid uncertainty over federal jobs and debates about the location of Space Command. Mayor Tommy Battle said the planning commission approved major developments to support steady growth and business activity. Huntsville Business Journal
- ➤ Alabama professionals who travel for work must secure a STAR ID before May 7th as only REAL ID-compliant cards will be accepted for domestic flights and federal buildings. Residents in Madison County can schedule an appointment at the ALEA Driver License Examining Office at 1115 Church Street NW in Huntsville—this is the only location issuing STAR IDs—and bring required documents to avoid delays. - ➤ A Defense Department inspector general report did not explain why Colorado was chosen instead of Huntsville for U.S. Space Command after Army planners in 2021 favored Huntsville. Rep. - ➤ The Huntsville Aquatics Center will offer lifeguarding classes this spring and summer that teach First Aid, CPR and AED skills and lead to a Red Cross certification. Participants aged 15 and older may register at 2213 Drake Ave for $150—Class 1 runs April 26 to 27 and May 3 to 4 with a registration deadline of April 22, Class 2 runs May 12 to 15 with a deadline of May 8, and Class 3 runs June 2 to 5 with a deadline of May 29; sessions are held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and include an online component.
