CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Four people—three from North Alabama—were indicted on federal drug trafficking charges for planning to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine; the indictment detailed that one suspect received packages containing 10,000 and over 29,000 fentanyl pills via U.S. Mail. WAAY 31
- ➤ A judge denied immunity for Paul Rambert—charged with murder for shooting his roommate Michael Williams in 2022 during an argument over missing property—and prosecutors said his self-defense claim did not match his statements to investigators. WAFF 48
- ➤ A police chase on Wednesday night near University Drive and Wayne Road left an officer injured and resulted in a 17-year-old being taken into custody after his red vehicle hit a patrol car following a call from the 500 block of Forest Park Court; he faces charges including Felony Flee and Elude of an Officer, Reckless Driving, and Trespassing — 3rd Degree. - ➤ Huntsville International Airport was named the Best Small Airport by Newsweek for a second straight time after serving a record 1.6 million passengers in 2024. The airport is in the middle of $100 million in improvements—these include a new concourse connector opened in March, upcoming food outlets in May, and planned restroom plus parking expansions later this year. - ➤ Fourth graders at Hampton Cove Elementary developed a low-cost paper recycling plan and hope it will spark change across the Huntsville school district. FOX 54

- ➤ Ivana Hrynkiw, an investigative reporter for AL.com, won a national IRE Award for her Denied series (which revealed Alabama’s broken parole system that cut approvals to 8% before triggering policy reviews that raised them to 20%) and her work prompted lawmakers to hold hearings and demand changes.
