  • The Von Braun Center announced that Propst Arena’s ice rink surface will be replaced in June — the upgrade aims to improve the facility for upcoming events.  WAFF 48
  • Duke, a three-year-old pit mix, has been at Huntsville Animal Services (145 days since November 2025) and awaits an active family (adoption fee waived) that can give him the room he needs to run.  WAAY 31
  • The Huntsville Islamic Center has served generations of Muslim families by offering educational programs and building bridges in Rocket City. The center remains a vital cultural resource for residents today.  WAFF 48
  • First responders from several agencies participated in a rescue drill on Friday, Apr. 17 to practice scenarios they might face across the valley. The exercise aimed to boost their skills for challenging field missions.  WAFF 48

CULTURE NEWS

  • Valley Conservatory will open its VC Recording Studio tomorrow at noon on Highway 431 in Brownsboro. The new space is set to serve local music makers.  WAAY 31

EDUCATION NEWS

  • ASCTE opened its $12.5M 1,100-seat facility for sports, theater and student activities yesterday; officials disclosed plans to build a national research institute and girls dormitory (funded by a $3M donation from Hank Isenberg). The project was built with private partnerships to boost campus opportunities.  Huntsville Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials partnered with a tech company to introduce real-time parking updates downtown, aiming to ease parking frustrations for drivers. The new service will launch soon to improve navigation for everyone.  FOX 54
  • Gov. Kay Ivey signed a bill updating Alabama's Clean Indoor Air Act to ban vaping in indoor public places such as restaurants, malls, airports and banks — the law will take effect Oct. 1.  WAFF 48

SPORTS NEWS

  • Officials said Toyota Field in Madison will host at least four SEC softball tournaments from 2027 to 2030 & expect the events to boost the local sports scene.  FOX 54
  • The AHSAA has updated high school sports rules by adding a 35 second shot clock for basketball and new guidelines for cross country, swimming and wrestling for the school year 2026 to 2027 (the change supports fair play). The board also elected Kim Kiel as its first female president.  FOX 54
