  • Animal rescuer Catherine O’Kain from WEBS warns against abandoning pet ducks at local parks, as domesticated ducks lack natural survival skills and may suffer serious injuries such as broken wings. Over the past year, she has rescued about 20 ducks, including 10 Muscovy ducks recently dumped at Brahan Spring Park (one did not survive despite vet care).  WAFF 48
  • The 17th annual Battle of the Buffalo at Big Spring Park Saturday featured 16 restaurants competing in a wing contest to honor late Paul 'fish' Salmon while raising funds for cancer care + research, with Ted’s BBQ earning top prize and support for HudsonAlpha Institute.  FOX 54
  • A Huntsville nonprofit leader is going a full month without showering to raise awareness for homelessness (a local push to highlight basic human needs).  FOX 54

  • Blue Origin said a BE-3U engine problem caused a failed payload deployment for AST SpaceMobile. The company is investigating the issue with FAA oversight, using data from tests at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and its Huntsville facility to return to flight operations.  FOX 54

  • AJ Wuest discussed Fayetteville Slawburger Fest and highlighted a local business sewing American flags to bolster community pride. The conversation unfolded as plans for the festive event continue to develop.  WAFF 48

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported that regular gas averaged $3.84 per gallon in Huntsville on Monday, Apr. 20, below the national price of $4.04; local averages in Decatur and Florence-Muscle Shoals were similar.  FOX 54

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A delegation of Huntsville and Madison County business, civic, and military leaders is traveling to Washington D.C. Sunday for an annual Congressional fly-in that includes meetings with NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman and U.S. Space Command Commander Gen. Stephen Whiting — with a Capitol Hill reception set for Monday evening.  FOX 54

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • North Alabama home sales spiked in March with 1,221 closed transactions and higher pending sales as calls from FBI and U.S. Space Command personnel increased; median prices rose in Huntsville and Athens, while Decatur remained affordable (median $254,000) amid varied inventory.  AL.com
