CRIME NEWS

  • Huntsville police are investigating a deadly Saturday night shooting at Westlake Apartments on Sparkman Drive near the intersection with Jordan Lane—officers found a man with a gunshot wound around 7:20 p.m. who died shortly after and no arrests or suspects have been identified.  WAFF 48

  • The Panoply Arts Festival returns to Huntsville as it transforms Big Spring Park into a hub of art, music, and food from April 25 to 27 — featuring live bands, an art marketplace, interactive exhibits, and nightly fireworks. Sponsored by Mazda Toyota Manufacturing, the event offers weekend passes for $20, day passes for $15, and free entry for children 12 and under.  FOX 54

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 50 students from Marshall Technical School took part in a public safety competition where they trained in handling hostage situations—armed confrontation and similar emergencies.  FOX 54

  • Alabama A&M's Carson Vinson was drafted in the 5th round by the Baltimore Ravens Saturday, April 26 to play as an offensive tackle in the AFC North. He is the school's first offensive player drafted in over 30 years—marking a milestone after a decorated college career.  FOX 54
  • The Ravens drafted Carson Vinson in the fifth round, making him Alabama A&M’s first draft pick since 2011.  WAAY 31
