- ➤ More than 600 local families are waiting for Habitat homes as the cost to build rises—from $80,000–$90,000 pre-Covid to about $137,000 today. Executive director Jeremy Foulks said the waiting lists in Madison, Limestone and soon Jackson counties show locating affordable land — also low-lying and at risk of flooding — adds to the challenge.
