- ➤ Tanisha Elizabeth Garth Nance, a 33-year-old Huntsville woman, was indicted by a Madison County grand jury on Wednesday on charges of drug trafficking and possessing a machinegun — her arraignment is set for May 22. WAFF 48

- ➤ The College of Cardinals met at the Vatican yesterday morning to begin choosing a new pope by praying, voting, and watching for white smoke—Huntsville priest Father Joe Lubrano of St. Joseph Catholic Church said Catholics around the world will celebrate when the new pontiff is announced. - ➤ Dr. Vineetha Menon is the Dr. Terence Reed Endowed Associate Professor of Computer Science and director of the Big Data Analytics Lab at UAH who leads multidisciplinary AI and big data research—she has won awards, mentors IEEE, and volunteers actively in the Huntsville community. - ➤ FBI Director Kash Patel said that Redstone Arsenal needs $160 million to build new training facilities over the next three years to move up to 1,400 FBI employees to Huntsville—he added that 500 workers will be transferred by the end of the year. AL.com
- ➤ On Wednesday, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 6 held its Annual Fallen Officer Memorial Service at 6 p.m. at the FOP Lodge 6 Memorial Wall on the south side of the Madison County Courthouse to honor 26 officers who died in the line of duty since 1880 + local law enforcement leaders, including officials from Huntsville and Madison police and the county sheriff, spoke at the hour-long service. - ➤ City officials said negotiations are still ongoing for Big Cove Village as owner Tom Drake and developer Tom Lowe from T2 Capital Management work to finalize a mixed-use plan in Huntsville. They expect to reach an agreement this summer—if so, the project will include homes, shops, and public spaces, while planned improvements on Old Big Cove Road will move forward regardless. AL.com
