SPORTS NEWS

  • Madison Academy’s young Mustangs ended their season Friday in the Class 5A state baseball quarterfinal by losing 2-1 and 3-1 in a best-of-three doubleheader at Moody. The team outhit the host Blue Devils but struggled to score when needed.  The Madison Record
  • The Madison Academy softball team scored 50 runs and allowed none at the Class 3A Area 15 tournament May 1-2, advancing to the North Regional in Florence. The team will face Gordo on Wednesday at 9 a.m.  The Madison Record
  • Sparkman's Lady Senators earned a North Regional spot by finishing second at the Class 7A, Area 7 tournament at Huntsville High School and will face Hewitt-Trussville today at 9:45 a.m. Bob Jones, the Area 8 runner up, will play Thompson today at 9:00 a.m.  The Madison Record
  • Thursday night, the No.1 Bulldogs beat Madison Academy 3-2 in overtime when senior Braulio Zavala scored a golden goal in the first minute of extra time, sending his team into the Class 1A/3A championship game on Friday.  The Madison Record
  • Former Grissom High School standout Justin Foscue hit his first MLB home run for the Rangers on Saturday, May 9 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas during a 6-0 win that snapped the Cubs’ 10-game winning streak, marking a special moment after years of hard work and setbacks.  AL.com
  • Bob Jones beat Hewitt-Trussville 3-2 in a state semifinal when Zachary McGee’s golden goal sealed the win in double overtime — sending the Patriots to face Auburn at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex at John Hunt Park.  The Madison Record
  • Bob Jones (record 26 to 18) was eliminated from the playoffs after a Game 1 extra innings thriller and a 7 to 1 loss in Game 2 on Friday in Madison. Thompson coach Frankie Perez credited ace pitcher Wyatt Williams for the win as the Patriots advanced to the semifinals.  The Madison Record
