  • Today, the Huntsville Hospital Foundation invites local graphic designers to submit a t-shirt design for the Liz Hurley Ribbon Run on October 18 — the contest theme is Step by Step and entries must be received by June 6 to have the winning design printed on up to 6,500 shirts worn by runners, walkers and breast cancer survivors.  WAFF 48

CRIME NEWS

  • On May 12th, a man accidentally shot himself to death in a red sedan parked on the 100 block of Jefferson Street and police confirmed that a woman and two children in the car were unharmed as investigators recover the firearm and review evidence.  AL.com
  • One person was injured in a shooting on Grizzard Road in Huntsville early Sunday morning, and authorities are investigating the incident.  WAFF 48

  • Teacher Ashleigh Yocum from Challenger Elementary received $500 in supplies from Walmart for Teacher Appreciation Week (following her Teacher of the Year award) and said she was overwhelmed by the surprise while her third-grade class joined in celebrating her 17 years of dedication.  WAFF 48

  • Rep. Dale Strong said a decision to locate Space Command in Huntsville will be made soon after the Senate votes on the Air Force secretary nominee—this move will create 4,700 jobs, with 1,700 direct roles and 3,000 spin-off positions for north Alabama.  AL.com
