  • Kaki Morrow is the Director of Corporate and Government Relations at Huntsville Botanical Garden who works to form strong local partnerships and support community groups. CRIME NEWS

  • The father of 22-year-old William Hardrick filed a wrongful death suit after Hardrick died on May 6 when John McAdams—currently in jail on charges of DUI, murder, and leaving the scene—hit him with a freight tractor trailer on I-65 in Limestone County, and the suit also names South Paw Transport LLC while seeking punitive damages and proof of McAdams’ driving qualifications.  AL.com
  • A truck driver accused of murder and DUI appeared before a judge Tuesday over a 27-mile crash spree on I-65 on May 6 that involved six crashes, one injury, and the death of 22-year-old William Hardrick—investigators said he admitted to drinking tequila and taking kratom earlier that day.  WAAY 31

  • Bank Independent appointed Hallie Mauldin as its new Culture and Engagement Officer on May 13th. She will lead initiatives to improve team member experience and engagement—drawing on her work as Community Engagement Officer with college partnerships, career programs and outreach through the Helping Hands Foundation.  Huntsville Business Journal
  • The Huntsville Music Office launched a week of free live music events—Tuesday’s Summer Sunset Concert Series featured Mike Roberts at Ditto Landing and planned concerts include 805 After Five at Campus 805’s Butler Green on May 15 and the Camp to Amp Festival at MidCity on May 17.  City of Huntsville

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A review of four years of income reports from mayors in Alabama's largest cities shows that Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle’s income rose from at least $361,000 in 2021 to over $1 million in 2023 and dipped slightly in 2024—other mayors from Mobile and Dothan also reported changes over the years—with income coming from jobs, business interests, and property rentals.  AL.com
  • Officer Lambert and Officer Toney from the Huntsville Police Department were honored at the TOP COPS Awards in Washington D.C. for saving a woman and her toddler during a hostage crisis last August—federal committees chose them from among hundreds of nominations.  City of Huntsville

HEALTH NEWS

  • According to U.S. News & World Report, Alabama ranked as the fifth-most obese state—rising from seventh last year—with an adult obesity rate of 39.4% based on survey data from the CDC and state health departments. The findings show nearly two in five American adults are classified as obese because they have a BMI of 30 or above.  AL.com
