- ➤ The City of Huntsville approved a contract with Nola | VanPeursem Architects to start rehabilitating Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center. - ➤ Between July 1, 2024 and July 1, 2025, Madison added nearly 4,200 residents—more than 11 a day—to reach about 68,000 people, marking the highest total growth in the state while Huntsville increased by 3,300. AL.com

- ➤ Allegiant Air launches nonstop service from HSV to Gulf Shores International Airport on Thursday, May 21 – offering one-way fares starting at $39 for summer travelers. The route will run through Dec. 2, saving commuters time and gas money on their trips. Huntsville Business Journal

- ➤ The City invites residents to attend a free Preservation Month panel Thursday, May 21, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on City Hall’s sixth floor, where panelists will discuss Indigenous history and announce new initiatives for preservation education — a chance for community engagement in local heritage. - ➤ On Wednesday, May 13, Huntsville and Arts Huntsville unveiled a 60-foot illuminated sculpture called SkyLume at John Hunt Park near Joe Davis Stadium. The sculpture uses kinetic + programmable lighting to honor Huntsville's aerospace roots and community energy. AL.com

- ➤ Huntsville City Schools held a groundbreaking for the new Huntsville Middle School next to Huntsville Junior High School— set to open in fall for sixth to eighth graders as part of a $67 million capital plan. - ➤ Huntsville families still face limited child care options while local officials and businesses work on solutions (Toyota will add centers for workers and the chamber is boosting in-home programs with workforce training) to ease the shortage. AL.com

- ➤ City officials proposed TIF 9 to fund $220 million in infrastructure projects, including $200 million to expand the Von Braun Center & upgrades for local schools. The projects are planned to be implemented over five years and will be voted on by City Council on June 11. City of Huntsville
