- ➤ Huntsville Fire — Rescue will begin accepting firefighter applications on May 20 after a news conference where officials explained the job’s competitive salary—starting at $53,726 and rising to $59,280 after training—benefits, elite training and career advancement; applicants must be at least 18, hold a high school diploma or GED and have no felony convictions. The department will host meet-and-greet sessions on May 29 from 6-8 p.m. at Fire Station 1 and on June 7 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Public Safety Training Academy to help interested candidates learn more and schedule a CPAT orientation.
