  • Published yesterday, Huntsville Parks & Recreation unveiled its 2026 Summer Program Guide with over 100 free activities covering strength programs, athletics, arts, outdoor recreation and community events hosted at parks and local centers for residents to enjoy all summer.  City of Huntsville
  • At the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville’s 13th annual NAVIGATE Nonprofit Network Conference on May 12 at the Von Braun Center, nonprofit leaders gathered to exchange ideas. Alison Kling of Free 2 Teach presented her Lead with How framework (a method to share impact stories) to boost local nonprofit growth.  Huntsville Business Journal

  • Grimaldi's Pizzeria opened its third North Alabama location at Clift Farm in Madison today — a 3,940 sqft venue serving coal-fired brick-oven pizzas with a private party room. It also offers a Stoking Social Hour from 3 to 5 p.m.  AL.com
  • Shipping prices are rising in Huntsville as fuel costs push FedEx and UPS to adjust weekly surcharges while USPS implements an 8% temporary increase on certain services. Local shipping provider Ship Huntsville owner Aaron Scott said customers have noticed the cost changes ahead of graduation gift mailings.  WAFF 48

CULTURE NEWS

  • Arts Huntsville and Huntsville Parks & Recreation will kick off the 2026 Concerts in the Park series on Monday, June 1 at Big Spring Park where 10 free concerts will feature local bands every week until August 3. Guests should bring chairs or blankets, and leashed pets are welcome.  City of Huntsville

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman cut the ribbon last Friday for the 50,000 sqft Inspiration4 Skills Training Complex at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. The new facility will offer mission control simulations, an indoor drone range, FAA-certified flight simulators, and a virtual training scenario for Space Camp kids this summer.  Huntsville Business Journal
  • On May 19, the Huntsville Green Team held its annual Green Ambassador Awards to honor students, educators and schools for their commitment to environmental stewardship. More than 35 schools participated, showcasing hands-on projects and conservation efforts throughout the community.  City of Huntsville

  • Huntsville native Rodney Smith Jr. was invited by Gov. Ivey to mow the flag display area at the Alabama State Capitol today ahead of Thursday’s America 250 Alabama Celebration; his signed mower will later be auctioned to benefit veterans through his lawn care service.  WHNT News 19
  • Huntsville native Rodney Smith Jr. helped prepare the Alabama Capitol grounds on Monday, May 18 ahead of Thursday’s America 250 Celebration. He founded Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service and is known for volunteer mowing efforts that assist elderly residents, veterans, and single parents.  FOX 54
  • Limestone County leaders applied for a grant on May 19 to install new sidewalks near a local high school to boost student safety. Officials expect updates on the funding process soon.  WAFF 48
