COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Enable Madison County built a custom wheelchair ramp for 7-year-old Reina to help her and her grandparents access their home safely + easing their daily lifting struggles. The ramp now offers the family added independence and peace of mind.  WAAY 31
  • Officials announced a weeklong Armed Forces Celebration scheduled for June 5 to 13 to honor military members, veterans and service personnel linked to Redstone Arsenal. The events feature a golf tournament at the Links at Redstone, a birthday celebration at Redstone Gateway and a concert at Big Spring Park — engaging the local community in support of our defense forces.  WHNT News 19

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Journey Middle School math teams for grades 6, 7 and 8 won first place team trophies and earned 19 individual medals at the Pizitz Middle School Math Tournament held April 15-16.   • Huntsville City Schools approved a $3.68 million purchase agreement for 82 acres north of Highway 431 and Old Big Cove Road in Hampton Cove — paving the way for a new elementary or middle school to open for the 2033 school year.  WAAY 31
  • School leaders in the Tennessee Valley are preparing free summer meal programs for children 18 and under as rising food prices affect families; Huntsville City Schools will serve meals from June 1 to June 25 (at Martin Luther King Jr., Ridgecrest, and Whitesburg), with plans underway in Albertville and Athens.  WAFF 48

  • Huntsville Police Department warns residents to expect heavy downtown delays on Friday, May 22 due to large events at the Von Braun Center, including a high school graduation and an exiting conference. Drivers should allow extra time and use alternate routes — officers and City Parking Services will assist.  City of Huntsville

HEALTH NEWS

  • Huntsville Hospital's Trauma Services team hosted a training event today for National Trauma Awareness and Stop the Bleed Month. The program taught community members to control severe bleeding using wound packing + tourniquets to provide aid before EMS arrival.  WHNT News 19
