COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Phoenix, a local nonprofit (that supports workforce inclusion), was honored with a 2026 SourceAmerica Achievement Award when it received the Government Contracts Award last Wednesday at the annual Xforce Conference in Grapevine, Texas, and it now serves federal customers through manufacturing and essential services.  Huntsville Business Journal
  • Improvements to Church Street will begin Tuesday, May 26, with lane closures for sidewalk replacement and median upgrades continuing through Aug. 14 as part of the Big Spring Park expansion near former City Hall.   • Stone Temple Pilots will perform tomorrow at Orion Amphitheater in Huntsville as part of The Rise Of Rock World Tour. Lead singer Jeff Gutt and the band will deliver their classic hits for fans as they tour with headliners Godsmack and Dorothy.  AL.com
  • Iconic Harrison Brothers Hardware is hosting America’s 250 Celebration this Memorial Day weekend at the courthouse square with activities including the debut of the American Signature Quilt, a juried Signature Art Show, and a hands-on scavenger hunt. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) had five programs rank in the nation’s top 25 for federal research funding, as shown in a news release on Wednesday by the NSF survey. The results mark the 13th consecutive year of top-tier performance and reinforce strong ties with federal agencies.  AL.com
  • The FBI Birmingham Field Office partnered with Hampton Cove Elementary in Huntsville and delivered an interactive presentation on internet safety & emerging technology. Teachers were recognized while students explored drones to understand online security and learn about modern tools.  WHNT News 19

  • Tina Tucker was named the new CEO of the US Space & Rocket Center and will join the team on July 6 this summer after a nationwide search. She brings over two decades of leadership in aerospace & defense and deep community ties.  WAAY 31
