CRIME NEWS

  • Corrections officers found fentanyl on James William Butler from Gurley after a Priceville traffic stop along I-65 at 7 p.m.—he was arrested, charged with multiple drug offenses, and held at Morgan County Jail.  WHNT News 19
  • The Huntsville Police Department is asking for help finding Arron Bush, a 29-year-old man last seen on May 21 at 3 p.m. on 6th Street wearing a white T-shirt (blue pajama pants and blue sandals) who may have a condition that affects his judgment.  WHNT News 19
  • A federal grand jury in Huntsville charged eight individuals with immigration crimes on Thursday as part of Operation Take Back America — the charges include illegal reentry, fraud, and, for one man, possession of a firearm.  1819 News

  • The Huntsville Museum of Art closed in March to install a new HVAC system and will reopen this summer — the upgrade is intended to protect its art and boost visitor experience. Pane E Vino remains open, and the Museum Academy will begin summer classes on June 9 with registrations available online.  WAAY 31

  • Kelly East is the Vice President for Educational Outreach at HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, where she leads programs that improve genomics education & prepare the next bioscience workforce. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Huntsville crews are working into the weekend to clear storm debris after Tuesday night's tornadoes damaged homes and knocked down eight trees at one resident’s property, forcing him to use a chainsaw to clear blocked exits. City public works and other agencies are teaming up to help neighbors follow cleanup guidelines until regular waste pickup resumes next week.  WAAY 31
  • Huntsville city leaders are considering a proposal to raise sewer rates to help fund updates for six wastewater treatment facilities that handle 110 million gallons a day. The plan would increase residential rates from $24.15 today to $29.15 and eventually to $39.15 by 2034 — a vote is set for June 12.  WAFF 48
  • On Thursday, the Huntsville City Council annexed 27 acres near Old Big Cove Road and Buford Drive at the request of developer Louis Breland to allow future home and business development—an action that reflects the city’s fast growth. Local officials and residents also expressed worries that more schools and safer roads are needed as more families move to the area.  AL.com
  • Huntsville resident Vincent Farrell now works as the Assistant Executive Officer to the U.S. Army Materiel Command’s Command Counsel. He began his career as a paralegal in 2010 and advanced through roles at the Army and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  Huntsville Business Journal
