  • Storm repair workers are still helping tornado victims by working to stop more rain from worsening damage, and local authorities are monitoring the situation closely.  WAFF 48

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, May 24th, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a deadly rollover on Highway 67 at the intersection of Mountain Top and Julian Road in the Ryan Crossroads area, and the roadway remained closed while deputies, EMS and VFD managed the scene.  WHNT News 19
  • Toney Volunteer Fire and Rescue crews responded to a multi-vehicle wreck on May 24 at Old Railroad Bed Road near McKee Road — a power pole broke and authorities closed the road, advising drivers to take alternate routes.  WAFF 48
  • On Saturday morning, a middle-aged boater was struck by lightning on Lake Guntersville — he sustained burns and wounds to his hands and legs and was taken to Birmingham for treatment.  AL.com

CRIME NEWS

  • A Boaz woman, Lisa O. Fitts, aged 40, was killed in a single-vehicle wreck on Whitesboro Road east of Sardis when the vehicle left the road, hit a culvert, overturned and struck a house — the driver was injured and airlifted to Huntsville Hospital as authorities investigated the crash.  WHNT News 19

  • The Sons of Union Veterans held a Memorial Day service at Glenwood Cemetery to honor African Americans who fought with the Union during the Civil War—this ceremony acknowledged their service and sacrifice—.  WAFF 48

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Huntsville Police Department’s DUI Task Force will operate safety checkpoints from May 23 to May 25 to deter impaired driving in areas with high traffic crashes identified by NAHSO data—drivers stopped must show a valid driver’s license, insurance, and registration. Residents are urged to call the non-emergency line if they suspect an impaired driver.  FOX 54
