  • The Ardmore Public Library received a $10K federal grant to install automatic doors, ADA-compliant bathrooms, and wheelchair desks — upgrades that will make the library accessible for everyone.  FOX 54

  • A popular foam footwear retailer will open its second standalone store in Huntsville at Bridge Street Town Centre—joining the only other location at Tanger Outlets Foley. Crocs, known for its Classic Clogs, will add to the recent string of new establishments at the mixed-use center.  AL.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday, Huntsville residents gathered at Trinity United Methodist Church to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month—honoring diverse cultures and community contributions.  WAFF 48
  • The world's longest-running Cigar Box Guitar Festival started Friday night—featuring guitars made from cigar boxes—and continued on Saturday in Huntsville. The event drew fans to enjoy live music and local crafts.  WAFF 48

EDUCATION NEWS

  • FOX54 has introduced its Top Teachers for the 2024-2025 school year in a new yearbook video that highlights the educators' achievements. The series is available for streaming on the FOX54 app—providing viewers with a glimpse of local educational excellence.  FOX 54
  • On May 15, the Madison County Board of Education approved a $1,000 raise for all school system employees. The raise will cost the district $2.5 million yearly — officials said it will help attract and retain top staff for students.  1819 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Huntsville Utilities said a section of Walker Lane between Dilly D Harbin Road and Butler Road will close from June 2 until June 12—Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to about 3 p.m.—for transmission pole replacement. Detour signs will guide drivers to Billy D Harbin Road and Henry Taylor Road.  WHNT News 19

HEALTH NEWS

  • On May 1, the Leapfrog Group released its Spring report that graded 13 North Alabama hospitals from A to F based on measures like infections plus safe practices. DeKalb Regional Medical Center earned an A while Huntsville and Madison Hospitals received a D plus other facilities showed mixed results that may guide improvements in patient safety.  WHNT News 19
  • Huntsville Hospital received an F safety score from a national non-profit organization—hospital officials are reviewing the report and planning patient safety improvements.  FOX 54
