CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 19-year-old Huntsville resident, identified as Jamayah Pitts, faces reckless murder charges for the Binford Drive shooting that killed Tyrek Norris on May 30 (with an Aniah’s Law hearing set for today) as police continue investigating the incident. WAFF 48
- ➤ Brian Mann, a 36-year-old Decatur chiropractor accused of attempting to murder his wife by poisoning her with lead—charges from a September 2022 incident—is on trial. WAAY 31
- ➤ Huntsville police said a 19-year-old woman was arrested and charged with reckless murder for the May 30 shooting on Binford Drive that left 21-year-old Tyrek Norris dead and another injured — the investigation remains active. FOX 54
- ➤ Huntsville Police responded to a burglary incident in a Harvest neighborhood at a home on Water Stream Drive at 4 p.m. Tuesday when a man barricaded himself inside—negotiators and a SWAT team are working to resolve the situation while drivers are asked to avoid the area. WAAY 31

- ➤ The University of Alabama in Huntsville will offer a 25% tuition discount and waive the $60 application fee for eligible new or returning graduate students as part of its Charger EDGE program for the 2025–2026 academic year — residents of Alabama and select Tennessee counties must submit applications by August 6, with classes beginning on August 20. - ➤ Crews are finishing the nearly four-year project on Brownsferry and Tanner Crossroads in Limestone County. The road will open as a five-lane highway after minor maintenance is completed in a few weeks — delays from moving utilities pushed completion past the planned 2023 schedule. WAFF 48
- ➤ The Huntsville Police Department is urging drivers to slow down during its Summer Slowdown campaign, which runs from June 9 to August 12, to reduce speeding on city streets and in neighborhoods. Increased patrols, community education, and enforcement will address dangerous driving after 12 fatal crashes and more than 2,600 citations were issued this year. WHNT News 19
