BUSINESS NEWS

  • Huntsville City Council will vote to amend its agreement with BREG HSV (a Wisconsin company) to build a dual-brand Hilton hotel next to Joe Davis Stadium. The five-story building will include at least 200 rooms and meeting space as the city leases four acres next to Memorial Parkway to boost the stadium’s appeal.  AL.com

CRIME NEWS

  • Priceville Police arrested Trevor Allen Armstrong, 20, from Columbia, Tennessee, after a Tuesday traffic stop on I-65 near mile marker 335—he provided a false name that led officers to discover active warrants for felony aggravated assault and domestic violence assault and to find a Glock 45, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his vehicle.  WHNT News 19

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Alabama in Huntsville has launched today the Charger EDGE program that gives eligible graduate students a 25% tuition discount and waived application fee for master’s and graduate certificate programs in the 2025-2026 academic year—this discount benefits Alabama residents and select Tennessee counties. Applicants must apply by August 6 with classes beginning August 20.  Huntsville Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today at City Hall, the Huntsville City Council will vote on a plan to gradually raise sewer rates to fund a $150 million upgrade for the aging wastewater system — the change will increase average residential bills from $24.15 to $29.15 with a further $1 monthly increase starting in 2026 until reaching $39.15 in 2034.  AL.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Huntsville researchers at iXpressGenes have developed blood tests called the Trauma Autoimmune Indicator to detect inflammation markers linked to PTSD and other conditions following the 2010 UAH shooting. A private mental health facility and the Birmingham VA are piloting the tests and a national rollout is planned for 2026—Schmitt will testify today before a House subcommittee to support further research.  AL.com
