  • FinanceBuzz ranked 12 work-from-home jobs that pay over $70,000 using data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics—jobs include budget analyst, web developer, and compensation manager. Nearly 195,000 Alabamians worked remotely in 2023 with a median pay of $57,916—showing a gap compared to the national average.  AL.com

CRIME NEWS

  • Huntsville police said a 24 year old man named Victavious Tarez Dennis received a new murder charge after an infant sustained injuries that led to death in hospital; he was previously charged with aggravated child abuse and is held without bond while his Aniah’s Law hearing is set for June 17 and his preliminary hearing for June 18.  WHNT News 19

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Go Build Alabama will host a free hiring event on Tuesday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Calhoun Community College’s Advanced Technology Center – the event will connect job seekers with commercial construction employers such as Fite Building Company and Gregory Construction for full-time positions.  Huntsville Business Journal
  • A recent report from the Alabama Tourism Department showed that nearly four million people visited Madison County in 2024, boosting the local economy by $2.4 billion — the highest figure statewide. Charles Winters from the county’s Convention and Visitors Bureau said new airline routes and summer events will bring more visitors soon.  WAFF 48

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Alabama in Huntsville is offering a 25 percent tuition discount for students from the state and select Tennessee counties who apply to its graduate program this fall under the Charger Edge Tuition Discount Program—an affordable way for students to advance or change careers. Students can keep the discount for up to two years and must apply by August 6th.  WAAY 31

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The FBI may move its National Academy training program for local, federal and international law enforcement from Quantico to Huntsville. U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt said the change is an excellent decision that supports North Alabama’s growing role in federal law enforcement—helping boost national security efforts.  1819 News
  • The Huntsville City Council postponed its vote on a sewer rate hike that would raise the average user's monthly bill by $15 over ten years; officials have not set a new date for the vote.  FOX 54
