COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Huntsville Animal Services is hosting the Boom-Proof Your Pet event on Sunday, June 22 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Jaycee Building (John Hunt Park) to offer free and low-cost services such as microchips, collars and flea/tick prevention to keep pets safe after Fourth of July fireworks. Director John Fischer said the event is the shelter's first large-scale effort to equip pet owners with the tools they need to prevent lost pets.  FOX 54
  • The Downtown Rescue Mission said it faced a critical shortage of food items in its pantry due to increased demand for services. Donations can be dropped off any day from 8 a.m. & 8 p.m. at 1400 Evangel Drive NW in Huntsville and the mission served 442,070 meals and 3,939 food boxes in 2024.  WHNT News 19

  • A man was transported to a hospital in critical condition after a wreck just after 6 a.m. Thursday on North Memorial Parkway at York Road in Huntsville—motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.  WAFF 48

  • The FBI conducted a court—authorized search in a south Huntsville neighborhood on Wednesday night, local officials confirmed.  WAFF 48

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Temperatures in North Alabama will reach the high 90s next week, and local HVAC companies are preparing for their busiest season. Garrison and Garrison as well as Huntsville Utilities advised residents to clean or replace filters monthly, run heat-generating appliances at night, and use ceiling fans — steps that will help lower energy bills and prevent expensive repairs.  WAAY 31
