  • Tastee’s hosted its third annual hot dog eating contest — benefiting Next Step Farms.  WAFF 48
  • The Downtown Rescue Mission at 1400 Evangel Drive in northwest Huntsville is facing a severe shortage of non-perishable food due to rising demand and fewer donations. The food gap threatens its ability to feed and shelter the homeless — urgent donations are needed to help those in need.  AL.com

CRIME NEWS

  • A 27-year-old Hartselle man named Caleb Sean Wheeler was arrested earlier this week and charged with child sex abuse, producing child pornography, and other related crimes—authorities said he shared an explicit image of a minor on Kik Messenger and created explicit content with the child present.  WAFF 48

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The busy intersection at Wall Triana Highway and McKee Road in Madison County will close for roundabout construction to ease traffic and reduce accidents — message boards and additional signs will show drivers alternate routes during the closure, which will run through October 31. This project is part of a broader effort to improve safety at dangerous intersections in the area.  FOX 54
  • Moores Mill Volunteer Fire Department urged residents to stay hydrated and take precautions against heat as a brutal stretch of summer weather approached; the department advised checking on vulnerable neighbors + following safety guidelines to reduce heat-related risks.  WAFF 48

SPORTS NEWS

  • Huntsville’s annual 12-hour hockey game was held Saturday at the Ice Sports Center, drawing more than 100 players from ages four to 60 to help raise funds for cancer research—over 200 goals were scored as organizers aim to reach a $20,000 goal with donations accepted through the month.  WAFF 48
  • On June 20th, Huntsville City lost a penalty shootout 4—3 to Crown Legacy after a tied game. The loss may affect their standings as the season moves forward.  WAAY 31
